Dear Parents,
As the principal of the Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA), I wanted to be the first to share with you some very exciting news.
As many of you know, the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC) filed a lawsuit against the Northern Ozaukee School District in an attempt to shut down the Wisconsin Virtual Academy. The lawsuit threatened WIVA directly, but it also potentially threatened all of Wisconsin's public virtual schools. The lawsuit was filed in the Ozaukee County Circuit Court in 2004.
Today, the Ozaukee county judge ruled overwhelmingly in favor of the Northern Ozaukee School District and the Wisconsin Virtual Academy! The judge dismissed all of the arguments made by WEAC and denied their summary judgment against the school.
This is a great decision for the school, for the teachers, and especially for the kids. Indeed, it's a great decision for ALL public virtual schools in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Virtual Academy is a very successful school. We are proud of the academic results and the high-quality education services we provide families across the state.
The teachers and staff at the Wisconsin Virtual Academy are dedicated to the academic success of our students, and to developing a strong partnership with parents. We are excited to be able to continue that same level of commitment for our current students, our new students, and the many others who will be joining our school in the years to come!
Best,
Daniel J. Hanrahan
Principal
